SuspectedScammers was started in 2009 after a close encounter with a fraudster on Craigslist. We recognized the scam right away and searched on Google to see if this person had been reported anywhere else. Though there were blogs and forums available to search through, you’d have to go through page after page.
Within a week, a colleague also received a similar scam on another online classifieds website, but from a different email address. She received the fake/fraudulent money orders in the mail before she realized she had been duped. Luckily, she did not wire any money. She had a similar complaint that there was no centralized location to compile and research reported email addresses of suspected fraudsters. When she went to her local authorities, they replied they receive several calls every day regarding this type of scam and they do not have the resources to pursue them.
This led us to create www.suspectedscammers.com. The Internet Community now has a place to record the email addresses of all fraudsters they come in contact with. Users can search through our ever-growing database, and can submit fraudsters as many times as they like.
Our idea went global within days of going live. A grass-roots campaign of getting people to send us email addresses reached all continents faster than we could have ever hoped.
We hope that this website is useful to you, and that you use it wisely. Please do not list people on here on a whim, or out of spite.
The next time you receive a suspicious email, come back here and report them. Then see if someone else has already reported them. The greater the number of times someone has been reported, the greater the chance the person really is a fraudster.
We are always working to expand the site. If you have ideas or feedback, send us a note on the Contact Us page.
Sincerely,
The Suspected Scammers Team
