What do I do?

If you have received a suspicious email, enter that email address here.  You can receive these from a variety of sources: a reply to a posting on craigslist, a fake bid on eBay, or a random scammer phishing for your money.

Suspectedscammers.com offers a central location to submit these emails.  Each time you receive something suspicious, enter the email address here.  If you are trying to determine if a person’s email is legitimate, you can search through the emails listed here to see if the address has been reported before.

Why would I enter the email address?

1)       If they are trying to get money from you, they are doing it to many other people.  We are creating a central list of people who are suspected of scamming people.  Your additions keep our list growing.  Scammers have lots of email addresses, and this will make it harder for them to recycle the email addresses they have used and maintain new ones.

2)       If you are suspicious about an email you receive, do a search on our website to see if the email address has been reported before.  If it has, you can use this information.  You can also report it again.

What does suspectedscammers.com do with the information?

We keep it public for people to make educated decisions about whom they do business with online.  We do not verify the accuracy of the emails.  We rely on you, the Internet Community, to report suspicious emails accurately and honestly.  Any email addresses we receive are displayed for people to feed their inner skeptic.

What if my email address ends up on suspectedscammers.com?

Since we don’t have any way of verifying that an email address is truly engaged in a scam, we don’t delete anything we receive.  We don’t consider appeals to delete them.  Emails that appear on our site will remain here forever.

How do I recognize a scam?

If someone wants you to wire them money after sending you a money order, cashiers check, personal check, etc. you have been scammed.  You should add them to our list immediately.  Check the links on our site for examples of scams and use search engines for information on how to spot a scam.  We offer you a way to announce the suspicious activity to the community.

How do I do a search on your site?

Easy.  For Internet Explorer users, click on “Edit,” then “Find on this page…” Or press CTRL-F.  Enter a portion of, or the entire email address and press Enter.

Do I have to subscribe?

No.  No subscription is necessary.  Consider this a wiki without the ability to delete or modify.  This service is free for everyone; use it fairly and wisely.

Will my email address be displayed?

No.  We do not collect or display emails of anyone who visits our site.  More importantly, we do not collect or display emails of anyone who adds to our site.  All submissions are anonymous.
